What makes a smartphone the best smartphone in the market?

Is it Software and Hardware integration? Is it having the best cutting edge hardware? Or is it something which gives you best of both worlds at half the price?

Smartphones have become such an integral part of our lives. It is important to look at all the possible options and choose one that suits us the best.

In this list I am going to include both Android and iOS platforms. We are not here to argue about which platform is better. This is 2016, both platforms have grown and matured and the transition for an iOS user to Android or vice versa has never been easier.

In my experience there are 5 things that a smartphone must nail if it wants to be the best smartphone out there. These are the 5 things in no particular order.

Build

Battery

Camera

Display

Performance

OnePlus 3

If you are looking for a phone which has all the bells and whistles that of a 800$ phone for half the price, look no further. What’s the trade off? Frankly speaking? Nothing.

Since OnePlus entered the android market they have delivered on great phones time after time.

The fact that a 400$ phone sits with 800$ or even 1000$ phone should speak for itself. The performance on this phone is second to none. The phone comes with the best version of stock android in my opinion.

The phone also boasts of the fastest charging time of any smartphone this year.

LG V20

This just might be the most underrated phone of this year.

LG is one of the only manufacturers who still offer both expandable storage and a user replaceable battery. This allows that the user rarely faces any storage issues and battery can be replaced when it gets old increasing the longevity of the phone significantly.

For spec hungry people you can check this out.

The V20 has a great QHD display which is spread across a 5.7 inch screen. The build quality is top notch.

It was the first phone to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box ensuring fluid performance throughout.

It also has a dual lens camera setup ( No apple was not the first to come out with dual lens camera, actually it wasn’t even this phone ). The camera on this phone is easily the top 3 cameras for this year along with the iPhone 7 and the Google Pixel.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Samsung blast past its competition with the Note 7… quite literally.

But for what its worth it could have been the best phone of 2016. Its only fair that the Note 7 gets a mention.

But if there is one phone which can replace the Note 7 its the S7 Edge. Imagine the Note 7 without a stylus, you have the S7 Edge. This is easily the best looking smartphone of 2016. You can check the specs here.

Samsung makes 98% of the AMOLED market in the world.

For those who don’t know, AMOLED is a screen technology which in almost every way is better than IPS LCD. Its just the next step in technology in displays.

Hence it comes as no surprise that this phone has the best display in the market right now. It is IP68 water and dust proof, meaning you can submerge it under 1.5 meters under water for 30 mins.

Its fluid, has an amazing camera, and is one of the best phones in regards to battery life.

This is one phone which if rocked without a case will make heads turn.

iPhone 7 Plus

Plus, adjective meaning more, positive, surplus. For three generations Apple has released a “Plus” version of its iconic iPhone, and the iPhone 7 Plus lives up to that supersized subtitle better than ever.

With an upgraded display, camera and battery, this is the new iPhone you should buy … if you’ve got the hands (and the wallet) for it.

At its core the plus is just a 7 on steroids. But the Plus’s improvements are in the most critical aspects of smartphone experience. Bigger is just better and its kind of tedious to list all the ways that’s true so lets all agree that it is. The specs of the phone here.

The iPhone 7 plus has a great camera, top notch build, decent display (compared to the competition offering qHD) but it has the best in class battery life. The battery life on the 7 Plus is impressive to say the least.

The iPhone 7 plus is most likely to keep you happiest the longest, even if it takes your wallet a little longer to recover.

Google Pixel XL

There are a lot of Android phones made by a lot manufacturers but never one made by Google. This is the Pixel.

The Pixel XL is Google’s purest and most complete vision for what an Android phone should be.

For all you spec junkies click here.

It has a great uni-body aluminium build. A stunning qHD AMOLED display. Performance which is second to none. Battery life that easily lasts all day on heavy use and the pictures that come out of this phone are breathtaking.

The camera on the Pixel XL is the highest rated camera for any smartphone ever.

This phone encourages you to take pictures, for even someone who doesn’t like taking a lot of pictures.

The Pixel also comes in with Google’s new AI based assistant. The phone comes in with 24/7 customer service built right into the settings of the phone. It also gives an option to share your screen with a customer service executive if you want to.

Owning the Pixel XL you can be sure that you have the best smartphone of 2016.

What do you think is the best smartphone of 2016?
